Aishah Mahmood
Biography
Aishah Mahmood is an undergraduate student at Wayne State University majoring in Psychology and minoring in Public Health. Upon taking public health courses for her minor and working as a Medical Assistant at a family/preventive medicine clinic, she found a keen interest in the intersection of public health and medicine such as preventive healthcare, the impact of socioeconomic status on health disparities, and decreasing biases in healthcare. She was drawn to the ongoing IDEA research study due to her familiarity with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the lifestyle challenges that come with the diagnoses. She is grateful for the opportunity to be involved in this research as it aims to improve the lifestyle of adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes. When met with free time, Aishah prefers to spend time with family, frequent restaurants in Detroit with friends, or explore recent contemporary fiction novels.
